Violent clashes broke out in Lahore after Punjab Police launched a major crackdown on the hardline religious group Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP). The unrest erupted when security forces attempted to seal the TLP headquarters, prompting strong resistance from party supporters.

Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes, with police firing teargas and shells as protesters fought back using stones and makeshift barricades. Several people have reportedly been injured on both sides, although official casualty figures have yet to be confirmed.

The crackdown comes just a day before Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan was set to stage a major protest against the proposed Gaza Deal, which the group alleges is backed by Western powers, particularly the United States. TLP has urged its supporters to march toward the US Embassy in Islamabad following Friday prayers on October 10, calling the demonstration a “decisive protest against the betrayal of Gaza.”

Tensions escalated further after the arrest of senior TLP leader Naeem Chatha in Islamabad. Several other prominent figures and local leaders were also detained in Lahore, triggering the group to announce a large-scale sit-in in the capital. Thousands of supporters are expected to mobilise from Punjab and other provinces in response.

In a statement released early Thursday, Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan claimed that several of its workers had been arrested and strongly condemned the raids carried out on the homes of its supporters.

Security agencies have placed Islamabad on high alert, with special focus on the Red Zone, home to key government institutions and foreign embassies. Law enforcement remains on high alert, closely tracking the movement of TLP supporters and preparing contingency measures to safeguard sensitive locations.

Authorities have called for calm, warning that any attempt to breach the Red Zone or approach the US Embassy will be met with a strong and immediate response.
