Guwahati: The Guwahati High Court has appointed Justice Saumitra Saikia commission for a judicial inquiry of the mysterious death of popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore on 19th September. On the request of the state government the Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court appointed justice Saumitra Saikai commission on 3rd October. Informing the development CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the state government will constitute the commission on October 4 for the enquiry of Zubeen Garg’s death after the High Court’s approval.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is investigating the death of Zubeen Garg in mysterious circumstances while swimming in the sea in Singapore. Assam police SIT has so far arrested 4 persons related to the case. The organiser of the Northeast Festival in Singapore Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen’s Manager Sidharth Sharma, music arranger Shekhar Goswami and female co-singer Amritprava Mahanta were arrested by the SIT. Meanwhile, Singapore authorities have handed over the autopsy report of Zubeen Garg to the Assam government which was later given to the late singer’s family by the state government.

Interestingly, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on October 3 alleged that a section of people are trying to create a huge conspiracy taking the tragic death of Zubeen Garg as a shield. He cited that misinformation is being circulated in social media to mislead the SIT investigation. Few groups are trying to divert the government keeping the 2026 election as a target. He said, “ Bengali speaking Muslims always prefer to invite singers from Bangladesh in their programs instead of heartthrob Zubeen Garg. But now these people are trying to show themselves as the biggest followers of the beloved singer.” He further said that this trick will be able to stop the ongoing eviction drives in the state. CM Sarma said, “ You can’t divert me from the issues. We will continue the eviction drives to secure the future of the indigenous people of the land. We will continue the development and also give justice to beloved Zubeen Garg too.”

It should be mentioned that a group of people involved with the left eco systems are trying to create unrest in the state taking the untimely death of singer Zubeen as an instance. Provocative statements are being circulated in the social media to incite the people. Attempts to create violence in Guwahati city were thrown by police and Congress leader Ajay Phukan and one influencer were arrested by the police under NSA. State Congress president MP Gaurav Gogoi recently said that people are still keeping patience, otherwise they could have created violence across the state. Meanwhile CM Sarma said as the Judicial commission will start its inquiry very soon, it is now the duty of those people, who are actively advocating the probe in social media, to submit their affidavits before the commission. “ The ball is now in their court”, the CM added.
