PM Narendra Modi reacts to Zubeen Garg's death

PM Narendra Modi in his “Mann Ki Baat” paid rich tribute to legendary Assamese singer Zubeen Garg. The popular singer who died on 19th September was paid rich tribute by crores of people in Assam and across India. In his 126th Mann Ki Baat talks on September 28, PM Modi paid emotional tribute to the departed soul and called him “Kahinoor of Assamese culture”. The PM highlighted Zubeen Garg’s great musical and cultural legacy and said that his spirit will live in the hearts of crores of his fans across Assam and India. PM Modi mentioned the immense contributions of Zubeen Garg to Assamese culture and Indian music and said that his songs and creation will continue to inspire the future generations.

Meanwhile the family of singer Zubeen Garg lodged an FIR on 27th night demanding a proper enquiry of the demise of the popular singer in Singapore. The FIR was lodged by Zubeen’s wife Garima Saikia Garg, hisbsister Palmi Garg and his paternal uncle Manoj Garg. The FIR accused all present in Singapore at the time of his demise and demanded an investigation.

Meanwhile Assam police SIT which started the investigation of the mysterious death of the singer has questioned several people who were with Zubeen Garg in Singapore on 19th September. Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has also written to the chief justice of Guwahati High Court requesting him to constitute an enquiry committee by a sitting judge for a free and fair investigation of the case.

Zubeen Garg died in Singapore while he was swimming in the sea on 19th September. He was there to attend the Northeast Festival. His mortal remains were brought back to Assam on 21 September. Crores of people paid rich tribute to the legendary singer for two days. He was cremated on 23rd September in Kamarpara near Guwahati with full state honour.

Union minister Kiren Rijiju paid floral tribute to the popular singer on behalf of PM Modi. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma union ministers Sarbananda Sonowal, Pabitra Margherita and several top dignitaries attended the funeral apart from lakhs of his fans and followers. Even after 10 days of his demise thousands of people are still mourning the loss at the place where he was cremated. People from across the state are visiting the place on a daily basis and paying respect to the departed soul.

Zubeen in his 33 years of illustrated musical career sang over 38000 songs in 40 languages. Recently one of his fans created a museum in Guwahati where he has collected over 38000 songs sung by Zubeen Garg starting from 1992 to 2025.
