Guwahati: Assam police SIT has filed chargesheet in the mysterious murder case of popular singer Zubeen Garg on December 12. The investigation team has submitted a 2500 pages chargesheet against 7 accused persons in the Guwahati Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court within 90 days of the crime. In a detailed chargesheet the SIT has outlined several crucial points regarding the murder of the singer. SIT head, Special DGP Munna Prashad Gupta has revealed that section 103 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Samhita (BNS), a section applied in murder cases, has been invoked against 4 main accused of the case.

Assam’s heartthrob singer Zubeen Garg died in a mysterious condition in Singapore on September 19 while attending a yacht party with Assamese residing in Singapore. BNS section has been invoked against event organiser Shyam Kanu Mahanta who was organising Northeast festival in Singapore which was scheduled to be attended by Zubeen Garg on September 20, Sidharth Sharma, Zubeen’s manager, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprabha Mahanta, Zubeen’s bandmate. Various sections of BNS have been invoked against three other accused including criminal breach of trust and culpable homicide not amounting to death. All 7 accused are in judicial custody after their arrest by the CID.

Zubeen’s mysterious death was a big shock for his crores of fans and followers in Assam and across the country. Lakhs of people demanded justice for Zubeen and in response to that Assam government formed the SIT under IPS Munna Prasad Gupta. The SIT team immediately arrested 7 prime accused and quizzed over 250 persons during the investigation. Within 83 days of the case registered in CID police station the SIT submitted the chargesheet. SIT co-head SP Rosy Kalita files the chargesheet in the CJM court in Guwahati.

SDGP Munna Prasad Gupta said that the main chargesheet is of 2500 pages and it comes to around 12000 pages including all related documents and electronic evidence. CM Himanata Biswa Sarma said, “ As we promised to the people of Assam, SIT has submitted the chargesheet today. We have taken the responsibility to give justice to our beloved Zubeen Garg and as part of the responsibility SIT files the chargesheet in a record time. 4 persons have been accused for the murder in the chargesheet and now the court will punish the culprits and we have full faith in the judiciary.” The CM further said that the case will be transferred to the session court as it involves murder charges and then the government will appeal the Supreme Court for setting up a fast track court for regular hearing of the case.
