‘Goodbye infiltrators’: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma as 37 intruders deported to Bangladesh

Guwahati: Deportation of Bangladeshi infiltrators continues from Assam. 37 Bangladeshi intruders including women and children who entered Indian territory recently were detained and deported by security forces from Assam. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Good bye infiltrators; your time’s up in Assam!” 37 uninvited guests have been PUSHED BACK to their own homeland in Bangladesh from the Sribhumi sector.” He further said that all infiltrators will be dealt with in a similar manner. “Just letting you all in advance — All unwanted guests will be treated with the same gesture.”, CM said.

The infiltrators were deported from Sribhumi district in southern Assam on the night of September 22. But when and where the intruders were captured by Assam police it was not clear. CM Sarma earlier said that over 3500 illegal infiltrators residing in Assam were deported from the state so far. Every week 40-50 infiltrators were pushed back from Assam. It should be mentioned that the BJP government in Assam has been actively following the Immigrants Expulsion from Assam, Act 1950 after a recent verdict by the supreme court. Earlier infiltrators captured in Assam had to be referred to the Foreigners Tribunal which is a very lengthy process. But after the activation of the decades-long act, the deportation process is now a quick decision for the District Commissioners (DC) of the state. Assam government has now empowered the DCs, as per the act, to identify and deport illegal infiltrators within 10 days of detection.
