In a horrifying incident from Greater Noida, a young woman named Nikki was allegedly set ablaze by her husband and in-laws over a dowry dispute. A distressing video has emerged showing her engulfed in flames, painfully making her way down a staircase, just hours before she succumbed to her injuries en route to a Delhi hospital on August 21. The shocking act was witnessed by her 6-year-old son.

In 2016, sisters Nikki and Kanchan married brothers Vipin and Mohit Bhati in Gr Noida. Their parents gave a Scorpio, Royal Enfield, cash and gold as dowry, payment for a dignified life they hoped for their daughters.

Fighting back tears, the boy told those around him, “They first poured something on mumma, then slapped her before setting her on fire with a lighter.” When asked if his father was responsible, he quietly nodded.

Nikki had been married to Vipin Bhati for nine years, but her family says she faced continuous dowry harassment. Her elder sister Kanchan, who is also married into the same family, said she witnessed Nikki being burned alive right before her eyes.

“They demanded Rs 36 lakh as dowry and kept saying we didn’t give enough at the wedding. Last night, they attacked both of us. Between 1:30 am and 4 am, they beat me as well. They said, ‘We got dowry for one, what about the other? You’re better off dead. We will marry again.’ I tried to save Nikki, but I couldn’t,” Kanchan said, breaking down.

A video has surfaced showing Nikki’s husband and mother-in-law assaulting her and dragging her by the hair. Another clip shows Nikki lying on the floor with severe burn wounds. She was initially rushed to Fortis Hospital but was later referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. Tragically, she died en route.

Following a complaint by her sister, the police registered a case at Kasna police station against her husband Vipin, brother-in-law Rohit, mother-in-law Daya, and father-in-law Satveer. Vipin has been taken into custody, while the others remain at large.

The incident has sparked outrage in the region, with a large crowd gathering outside the police station demanding strict punishment for the accused. Protesters held placards reading “Justice for Nikki.”
