Pakistan came up with a 48-hour war plan against India, but the Indian Army brought them to our knees within hours, said Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan. India only targeted terror camps in Pakistan through Operation Sindoor, but Pakistan decided to retaliate by launching a military operation against India.
They initiated the operation at 1 a.m. on May 10, believing they could subdue India within 48 hours. “But within just eight hours, they scrapped all their plans, picked up the phone and called, saying they were ready for talks,” explained General Chauhan. He was speaking at an event held at Pune University.
Pakistan’s actions, he noted, are not new. Their former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had once declared a 1000-year war against India during a speech at the United Nations in 1965. Chauhan added that a recent statement by Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir was inspired by Bhutto’s rhetoric. Munir made a statement laced with religious hatred. “On April 22, terrorists killed our loved ones in front of women and children in the name of religion. The modern world cannot accept this at all,” Chauhan stated.
The attack, he said, revived memories of past terror incidents. “This is not the first terror attack on India. Western countries may have faced one or two attacks, but 20,000 people have been killed in India due to terror attacks.” Operation Sindoor, Chauhan said, was launched with the aim of ending Pakistan’s state-sponsored terrorism.
He further stated that the Indian Army acted professionally and did not retreat in the face of initial setbacks. While both India and Pakistan have strategic capabilities, none had been tested in a real war scenario. “In such situations, challenges and crises must be faced. Without facing them, success cannot be achieved. We are now clearly convinced that India has a system to successfully prevent drone attacks,” said General Chauhan.
