Chhattisgarh: Police arrests Bangladeshi couple residing illegally in Bhilai of Durg, seized fabricated identity cards

The duo was residing illegally by faking their identities with Sahida Khatoon posing as Jyoti. They were reported to be in constant touch with their relative from Bangladesh over internet and WhatsApp.

Raipur/Durg: Police in Durg have arrested a Bangladeshi couple residing illegally in Supela of Bhilai, officials said on May 18. The couple identified as Md. Rasel Sheikh and Sahida Khatoon alias Jyoti was residing illegally after expiration of their visas, officials added.

According to the police, the couple arrived in Bharat in 2009 and were working at Navi Mumbai and Thane before moving to Supela in the year 2017. During their stay at Mumbai the couple illegally prepared Aadhar Cards. They were nabbed by the police in the year 2020 and were granted bail.

Following their release on bail, the duo again prepared some fraudulent documents and used it subsequently to change their address in Aadhar Cards. They were living as married couple and the police had also seized Bangladeshi passport when they first crossed into Bharatiya territory, said officials.

The officials added that the accused prepared fraudulent documents such as the Voter Cards, Aadhar Cards, Pan Cards and Bank Passbooks and misused them. They were also found to be in constant touch with their family members from Bangladesh over internet and WhatsApp call. A case of loot was also registered against the arrested male member.

The couple was taken into custody by the Special Task Force (STF) formed to identify and locate illegal infiltrators residing illegally in the district and booked under relevant sections of Foreign Citizens Act 1967, Indian Passport Act 1920 and Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) subsequently.

Illegal Bangladeshi infiltrator ‘Panna Biwi’ posing as Anjali Singh nabbed by STF

Earlier on May 15, the STF arrested another illegal woman Bangladeshi infiltrator from Bhilai. The accused identified as Panna Biwi was a resident of Khulna district of Bangladesh who was residing in Bhilai of Durg district with a fake identity for the past two years. The police team also seized a fake Bharatiya Aadhar Card from the possession of the accused women.

Upon receiving information about the accused residing at Nehru Nagar of Supela, the STF team raided the house of Suraj Shaw and arrested Anjali Singh alias Kokilka Ghosh alias Panna Biwi.

The accused women initially tried to mislead the police by introducing herself as Anjali Singh, a resident of Nagloi, Delhi. The police however got suspicious and interrogated her thoroughly, leading to her confession about her Bangladeshi nationality.

Drive to identify illegal immigrants

Police in Chhattisgarh is carrying out a special drive to identify and locate all the illegal immigrant residing in the state.

Earlier on April 27, Police arrested two Pakistani nationals residing in Raigarh district of the state after they were found to be in possession with fake Voter ID cards and other identity related documents accessed illegally.

Ifthiqar Sheikh (29) and Arnish Sheikh (24), both original residents of Karachi, Pakistan were residing at Yakub Sheikh’s house in Kodtarai village under Jootmil police station limits of Raigarh.

According to police the accused acquired fake Bhartiya identity related documents by providing false information to the concerned officials despite having valid long-term visas. They were taken into custody and booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
