NEW DELHI: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) candidate Ankit Bidhan won the President’s post in the Punjab University Students’ elections, securing 3,143 votes and winning by a convincing margin of 506 votes. ABVP extends its heartfelt gratitude to the students of Punjab University for placing their trust in the organization for the second consecutive year. This triumph is not merely an electoral win, but a testament to the faith of thousands of students who chose their own experience and intellect over false propaganda, confusion, and negative narratives spread during the campaign.
This marks ABVP’s second consecutive victory for the post of Student Union President, following the historic win of Gauravveer Sohel last year. The students have once again made it clear that work done in their interest takes priority over fear, pressure, falsehoods, and political noise.
ABVP National Secretary Dr Virendra Singh Solanki said: “This mandate must first and foremost be seen as a reaffirmation of the trust that the students of Punjab University have placed in ABVP. During the previous year, while serving as the Students’ Union President, we raised issues concerning student welfare, fought for solutions to the problems faced by students, and ensured that the voice of the university’s students reached the administration. Today, students have evaluated that work through their votes. This result is also a clear message to those who attempted to create a particular atmosphere against ABVP throughout the election campaign. There were concerted attempts to use fear, confusion and misinformation as political tools through various platforms, but the Gen Z of Punjab University refused to accept them. This election is not merely a mandate in favour of ABVP; it is also an answer to the perception that today’s youth are naturally moving away from nationalist thought or ABVP. The students of Punjab University have rejected this notion through their vote. They have made it clear that Gen Z does not have a problem with nationalism; it has a problem with negativity. Under the leadership of newly elected President Ankit Bidhan, ABVP is committed to strongly raising the voice of every student of Punjab University. Going forward, our focus will not be on personal politics, allegations and counter-allegations, or cheap rhetoric, but on the genuine concerns of students, better facilities, a clean and safe campus, transparent administration, and the creation of a better Punjab University. This victory is not the end; it is the beginning of a greater responsibility.”
