Seven arrested for spying for Pakistan

Guwahati: Joint operation by the Indian army and STF Assam busted a Pakistani spy network based in Assam, Telangana and Rajasthan. Indian Army sources said that actionable Information was received from Gajraj Military Intelligence about a racket involving fake SIM cards being used from bases in Assam, Rajasthan, and Telangana for anti-National activities including sensitive information gathering by agents sitting in Pakistan and other cyber crimes.

This information was further developed by the Special Branch and Special Task Force of Assam Police.

After receiving credible intelligence inputs and after strategic deliberation with the Gajraj intelligence unit of the Indian Army, a joint operation was carried out simultaneously in two districts of Assam, one district in Telangana, and two districts in Rajasthan. The operation had been named ‘Operation Ghost SIM.’

On 14/05/2025, a case was registered at STF, Assam, vide STF PS Case No. 02/2025 under Sections 61(2)/147/148/62 of BNS, read with Section 18 of the UA(P) Act and Section 66 of the IT Act, and an investigation was launched.

Accordingly, a team of Indian Army and STF Assam was dispatched to each of the states-Rajasthan and Telangana-while dedicated action teams were formed for the districts of Dhubri and Morigaon in Assam.

A joint operation was launched from the afternoon on 16/05/2025 and the 7 suspected apy persons picked up from various locations and arrested in connection with the suspected spying for the enemy nation.

Saddik, (47 yrs) of Bela, PS Sikri, Dist Bharatpur, Rajasthan, Arif Khan, Age 20 Years, S/o Azhar Khan of Sahodi Ka Bar, Sahori Alwar, Rajasthan,Sajid, Age 21 Years, S/o Banne Khan of Sahodi Ka Bar, Sahori, PS: Akbarpur, Alwar, Rajasthan, Akeek (25 yrs) from Rojki, Dist Bharatpur, Rajasthan was arrested at Guwahati airport, Arsad Khan (34 yrs) of Pendka, PS Nagar, District- Bharatpur. Rajasthan was arrested at New Delhi airport, Mofijul Islam (19) S/O– Sabir Ali, R/O Kathaldi Pt-II, PS-Bilasipara, District – Dhubri, Assam, Place of arrest Gollapally, PS Kondapur Dist- Sangareddy, Telengana and Jakariya Ahmad (24 yrs), S/O-Mojibor Rahman, Vill Sagunmari pt-iv, PS-Bilasipara were arrested by the joint operation team.

Besides the above persons 14 more persons have been picked up from different places of Dhubri district of Assam and necessary lawful action will be taken after proper interrogation. The operation teams have seized  948 numbers of fake SIM cards and other technical devices used in cybercrimes and spying.
