Ranchi: Members of the tribal community staged a strong protest in Pithoria of Ranchi, demanding action against a number of people belonging to Muslim community who were allegedly involved in an altercation that broke out between the two communities during a Sarhul procession on April 2.

The protestors alleged that a local identified as Asif Ansari threatened to shoot them with a gun during the altercation on Wednesday evening. They further accused a few individuals for misbehaving with one of the women.

Notably, an altercation broke out during a Sarhul procession in Pithoria village involving people from the Tribal and Muslim community, leading to injuries to a few people. A number of people from both sides have reportedly sustained injury in the attack before the authorities intervened and controlled the situation.

Members of the tribal group alleged that they were attacked and threatened over a dispute that broke out allegedly after a flag during the procession touched the decoration done on the streets. A video of the said altercation has also gone viral on the social media platforms.

Earlier, the tribal group also staged a strong protest by jamming the Ranchi-Patratu road over the incident. The protestors demanded action against all those involved in the scuffle. A complaint regarding the incident has been lodged and the police have arrested two individuals in connection with the case.

The incident has also attracted reactions from the opposition leaders who have been accusing the state government for ignoring the sentiments of tribal community. The matter is currently being investigated.

Notably a similar altercation was also reported from Giridih district recently, where members of the two communities resorted to stone pelting, hours after they got engaged in a verbal confrontation. The police however later claimed that the dispute was only between two people and the case is being investigated further.
