Uttar Pradesh: Meerut police to take legal action and cancel passports of those who offer Eid-ul-Fitr namaz on roads

This year, the police in Meerut have decided to take a strict stance against the offering of Eid-ul-Fitr namaz on roads, especially near Idgah. The authorities have issued clear instructions that no religious prayers will be allowed in public spaces without prior permission, and strict measures will be taken against violators, including FIR registration and passport cancellations

Ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, the local police in Meerut have adopted stringent measures to ensure that namaz is not offered on the streets or roads, particularly near Idgah. SP City Ayush Vikram Singh confirmed that this year’s Eid prayers would be confined to designated locations such as nearby mosques and Faiz-e-Aam Inter College, ensuring that public roads remain clear of religious gatherings.

The decision comes as part of a broader security initiative to prevent any disturbances during the religious event. Police and paramilitary forces, including PAC (Provincial Armed Constabulary) and RAF (Rapid Action Force), will be deployed at key locations such as Idgah, and additional surveillance measures will be in place, including drones and video cameras. This enhanced security protocol is aimed at maintaining law and order during the festival.

SSP Vipin Tada has also emphasised the importance of adhering to the government’s directive, making it clear that no religious activities will be permitted on public roads or spaces without official authorisation. The police station in-charges have been instructed to prevent any incidents of namaz being offered on the streets, with firm action to be taken against violators.

Authorities have announced that anyone found offering namaz on the road will face immediate legal action, including the filing of an FIR and possible arrest. Furthermore, in a significant move, authorities will also initiate the process of passport cancellation for individuals involved in such activities. This step ensures that those attempting to disrupt public peace by offering prayers on roads will not be able to travel abroad to places like Mecca and Medina, as their criminal activities would be documented.

In addition to this, the police will also review cases from previous years and actively search for individuals identified in last year’s incidents. These individuals will be arrested and brought to justice as part of the ongoing effort to ensure that public spaces remain free from unauthorised religious events. The measures are part of a broader effort to maintain public order during the Eid celebrations, making it clear to everyone that all prayers should be conducted within designated religious places, keeping the streets and public roads free from such activities.
