The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has introduced India’s first hyperloop test track, stretching 422 meters. Developed with assistance from the Ministry of Railways, this cutting-edge facility is set to revolutionise high-speed transportation in India.

The hyperloop system aims to transport passengers in pods through low-pressure tubes, achieving speeds over 1,000 km/h. This innovation could cut travel time between Delhi and Jaipur to just 30 minutes.

The project has received backing from leading industry players such as Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Construction, ArcelorMittal, and Hindalco Industries, who have played a key role in the construction and development of the test track.

Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw praised the achievement on X, sharing a post about it.

Looking forward, there are ambitious plans to expand this technology with a hyperloop corridor between Chennai and Bengaluru, aiming to cover the 350 km distance in just 15 minutes.

The successful deployment of hyperloop technology could transform India’s transportation landscape, providing ultra-fast, efficient, and sustainable travel options. This breakthrough promises to improve connectivity between key urban centres while positioning India as a global leader in innovative transportation solutions.
