Narayanpur: A District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawan was injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast during a patrol operation in the forest area between Toymeta and Kawanar of Narayanpur district an official said on Friday, February 21.
Sharing the details of the explosion, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bastar P Sundarraj said, “The joint team of district force and DRG had departed from Chhotedongar police station when the explosion occurred around 1.45 pm on Friday.”
The injured jawan was evacuated and being provided with advanced medical treatment. More details about the explosion are awaited.
It is to be noted that a jawan from the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) had also sustained injuries in an IED blast during an area domination operation in the Bijapur district last week.
Following the explosion, the injured jawan was immediately evacuated to Bijapur and later referred to Raipur for advanced medical treatment. His condition is reported to be stable and out of danger.
Notably in a similar incident on February 11, another CRPF jawan was injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma. The incident took place near a security camp at Sukma-Dantewada inter-district border under Jagargunda police station limits, injuring a CRPF head-constable.
The injured head-constable M N Shukla was administered primary treatment and airlifted to Raipur. He was later referred to New Delhi where he succumb to his injuries.
It must be noted that the IEDs planted by outlaws to halt the movement of security personnel in deep forested areas often leads to civilian causalities given the frequent use of forest trails by local villagers, visiting the forests to pluck forest-produce like Tendu Patta and others.
