Kerala Governor Dr Arif Mohammed Khan visited, on October 22, the family members of the deceased ADM Naveen Babu at his residence in Malayalappuzha, Pathanamthitta district. He talked to Manjusha Naveen Babu and her children. He said that he would intervene if they (Naveen’s family members) felt it necessary and if they complained.

The Governor told the media persons that he visited Naveen Babu’s bereaved family members to extend his condolences to them.  He said he trusts the investigation, which is in progress. He said that it was not the right time for further reactions. If Naveen Babu’s family members have any complaints, he would handle them properly.

BJP State president K Surendran stated that P P Divya, who is alleged to have abetted the suicide of Naveen Babu, is protected. He said people know who protects her.

Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh alleged that if Divya is properly interrogated, the involvement of some big shots would be exposed.

Meanwhile, Kannur District Collector Arun K Vijayan IAS has reportedly admitted that he had not invited District Panchayat President P P Divya to the farewell ceremony organised in connection with the transfer of Naveen Babu. His statement was before the investigation team led by senior IAS officer A Geeta IPS, Joint Commissioner of Land Revenue.

Junior Superintendent Premlal has given the statement that Naveen Babu had sent him a message showing the phone numbers of his (Naveen Babu’s) wife and his brother. He received the message during the wee hours of October 15. Naveen Babu might have sent it a few minutes before committing suicide.

The investigation team did not get any evidence of the delay on Naveen Babu’s part in issuing the No Objection Certificate to Prashanthan for the petrol filling station.

Apparently, P P Divya still has not given her statement to the investigation team. Even though a case has been registered against her for abetting suicide, a non-bailable offence that carries a potential jail term of up to ten years, police still have not moved a little finger to arrest her. In fact, she travelled to the District Panchayat office to tender her resignation as its president. Interestingly, the office was hardly 50 meters away from the Police Station. Still, she is an absconder.

According to the post-mortem report of Naveen Babu, the rope had tightened the noose around his neck, causing his suicidal death.

Now, political observers believe that CPM is all set to protect Divya at any cost. They cite the examples of the mysterious death of Jishnu Pranoy and Siddarth, two professional college students who were found dead in mysterious circumstances.
