The Nilambur Police and the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) on September 18 arrested four persons, including a guest lecturer of a Muslim Educational Society (MES) college, for allegedly trafficking drugs under the guise of a beauty parlour in Nilambur, Malappuram district. The arrested have been identified as Suhail Peringodan (31), a guest lecturer at Mambad College; Subramanian (38), owner of the beauty parlour; T.N. Reena; and Vivek (36).
The DANSAF team and Nilambur Police raided the beauty parlour owned by Subramanian and seized 0.4 gram of MDMA and 0.5 gram of cannabis.
During the interrogation, Subramanian disclosed that he used to sell MDMA to Suhail Pringodan, T.N. Reena and Vivek.
Suhail Peringodan has been working in the Statistics Department of the MES College during the last three years. It is reported that Suhail has been selling the drugs to the students and his friends.
The Police have found that the accused has been buying MDMA from wholesale sellers in Kondotti and Manjeri in Malappuram district.
The raid and arrest are under ‘Operation Toofan’, a drive declared by Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala since he took over. ‘Operation Toofan’ is an ambitious action plan to put an end to drug trafficking and consumption.
Drug trafficking and consumption have been a serious menace in Kerala for a long time. The other day, Congress leader Saneesh Geroge, a former Municipal Chairman, was arrested while allegedly consuming MDMA. It speaks out that political influence plays a significant role in drugs.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala stated in Tiruvananthapuram on September 18 that an interstate drug mafia has been nabbed. Thirteen kilograms of MDMA worth Rs 10 crore have been seized. Mohammed Haris of Malappuram, Akhil Joy of Wayand and Salahudheen of Palakkad were arrested from Bhavalpur in Bihar. Karthik of Tamil Nadu was arrested from Chennai.
The investigations carried out in Bengaluru and Chennai led to the secret camps of the accused. The investigation team has traced some more links of the arrested ones.
