RANCHI: Tension simmers in Dumka’s Navadih village after four youths of the village allegedly attempted to rape a minor girl after abducting her from outside of her uncle’s house on October 13. The incident occurred on late Sunday evening on October 13 when the girl’s relatives had gone to attend the idol immersion procession of Maa Durga.

When the family members didn’t find the minor girl at home they subsequently began a search to trace her. The girl’s relative later barged into the house of Ajmer Mansuri, a resident of the same village when they heard the cry of the minor and recovered her in a frightening state with four youths.

Two of the accused Sarfaraj Ansari and Sarfaraj Mansuri were caught by the relatives of the girl from the spot,  while another two accused namely Rehan Mansuri and Raju Ansari managed to flee from the scene. The house owner Ajmer is too reported to be missing after the incident. Both the accused were later handed over to the police, while efforts are being made to nab the absconding accused.

The incident has heightened the tension between the two communities after which police personnel are continuously camping in the village. Additional forces from nearby police stations have also been called and deployed in the area in view of preventing any law and order situation.

A case against the accused has been lodged at Sariyahat police station limits on the basis of a complaint filed by the relatives of the minor girl and the authorities have launched a probe into the matter. Medical examination of the victim girl is also being conducted. The minor girl was reportedly a resident of Godda district who had arrived at her maternal uncle’s place during Durga Puja where she was abducted by the accused after they found her alone.

Learning about the incident, Mamta Kumari, a member of the National Women Commission also visited the Navadih village and took stock of the situation. She further interacted with the police officials and asked them to take strong action against the accused at earliest.

Minor girl raped by three accused in Latehar

Meanwhile  another incident surfaced from Jharkhand itself where a minor girl was raped by three accused in Mahuadand of Latehar district. The heinous crime took place on Saturday evening, October 12, when the girl was returning after watching Ravan Dahan program with a friend.

According to the reports, the accused Waris Khan, Gulzaar Ansari and Yuvraj Kumar stopped the girl and her friend near Saint Xavier’s college and thrashed the minor’s friend. The trio then raped the minor girl and fledfrom the scene.

The incident came to light after the minor girl narrated her ordeal to the family members after reaching home following which a complaint against the accused was filed at Mahuadand police station on October 13. Acting swiftly, the police arrested all the accused who later confessed about their involvement in the heinous act.

Opposition slams law and order of State

Meanwhile, slamming the current status of law and order in the state, former Chief Minister of the state Babu Lal Marandi said that the incidents of gang rape of minor daughters of tribal and Dalit communities have put the entire state to shame.

“Daughters of tribal and Dalit communities are constantly becoming victims of rape in Jharkhand and instead of preventing recurrence of such shameful incidents and punishing the rapists, the Hemant Soren’s government tries to hush up the incidents of rape,” added Marandi.

गत दिनों लातेहार और पलामू में आदिवासी और दलित समाज की नाबालिग बेटियों के साथ हुई सामूहिक दुष्कर्म की घटनाओं पूरे प्रदेश को शर्मसार कर दिया है।

The BJP stalwart further while terming such incidents extremely worrying remarked, that the failure of the incumbent government have forced the women of the state to live under the shadow of fear.

Notably, the state of Jharkhand has witnessed a surge in incidents involving such heinous crimes against women and according to a report, a total of 118 incidents of rape against women of Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Caste have already come up in the state between January to July this year.
