HYDERABAD: In a shocking hate crime early on October 14, the Goddess Muthyalamma Temple in Secunderabad’s Kummari Guda area near Monda Market was attacked, sparking deep unrest within the Hindu community. At around 4 AM, a group of Muslim youths allegedly entered the temple shouting “Allahu Akbar” slogans. One of the individuals reportedly desecrated the temple by damaging the idol and scattering pooja items. Awakened by loud noises, locals quickly intervened, apprehending one suspect while the others managed to flee. The captured individual was handed over to the police, who have since registered a case and are investigating the incident. Authorities are also reviewing CCTV footage in an effort to identify and locate the remaining suspects.

The incident has triggered mass protests in the vicinity, with activists from Hindu organisations rallying near the temple, demanding severe punishment for the culprits. A strong police presence has been deployed to prevent further escalation of tensions.

Union Minister Kishan Reddy, visited the site and urged the Congress government to take immediate steps to curb such communal discord, pointing out the need for better protection for Hindu temples.

Speaking on the scene, former Minister and BRS leader Talasani Srinivas Yadav condemned the act as a direct assault on the religious sentiments of the Hindu community.
Protesters have remained gathered at the temple, voicing their anger and frustration over what they see as a lack of accountability and protection for Hindu temples. Some protesters directed their criticism towards local Congress MLA Ganesh, accusing him of favouring the other community and chanting slogans demanding his accountability in supporting bail for those involved in similar previous incidents.

During Navratri festivities, unidentified individuals desecrated the murti of Durga Maa at Hyderabad’s Nampally Exhibition Grounds, an incident viewed by local Hindu groups as part of a targeted pattern against murti worshippers. This act, occurring at midnight on Thursday 10 October, follows a similar murti desecration reported last month in Rakshapuram, Hyderabad, adding to growing concerns over such incidents across India.

Dr. Shashidhar, spokesperson for the Vishva Hindu Parishad, told The Organiser, “These incidents appear to be deliberate attacks by Muslim youth. The police need to identify those involved and investigate the larger conspiracy, especially given recent similar attacks in Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Locals have informed the police about non-local Muslims reportedly taking shelter in a nearby mosque. This raises suspicions of a coordinated plot, potentially tied to the upcoming Wakf Bill, aimed at destabilising the atmosphere in Hyderabad.”
He added, “We urge the Congress government to instruct the police to conduct raids on mosques suspected of sheltering non-locals within the Cyberabad, Hyderabad, and Rachakonda commissionerates. These checks should include examining their origins and reviewing relevant police records to identify any potential threats or conspiracies.
