Jharkhand: Couple allege assault, molestation in a bid to force conversion in Giridih

The victim in her complaint has alleged that the accused have molested her and assaulted her husband and are forcing them to accept Islam. They also have threatened the couple with dire consequences if they chose to disagree

In a shocking development reported from Giridih district of Jharkhand, a couple have alleged that a group of people from the Muslim community of their village harassed them and forced them to convert to Islam.

According to the reports, the victim woman in her complaint has alleged that Farid Ansari, Manjoor Ansari, Maksud Ansari, Jainul Ansari along with others have been continuously pressurising her and her husband to accept Islam.

The incident has taken place in the Guwakhandhar village under the Dhanwar block of Giridih prompting the victims to approach the police for their rescue. As of now the police has launched a probe into the matter on the basis of the complaint of the victim.

In her complaint the victim has alleged that her mother-in-law had already accepted Islam a few years back and now the said accused have been continuously harassing her and her husband to follow suit by arriving at their doorstep for the last 4-5 days.

She further has alleged that the accused with the help of her mother in law arrived at her home and assaulted her husband alongside molesting her. The victim has also alleged the accused for hurling casteist abuses along threatening them for dire consequences if they dare to disobey their orders. The accused also threatened the victims that they will kill them and then convert their children to Islam if they do not agree to convert.

In a video related to the incident, the victim lady and her husband could be heard narrating their horrific ordeal pertaining to their harassment.  In the viral video the lady could be heard saying that the said gang members have also molested her while pressuring her to accept Islam. “Become a Muslim and leave with us we will feed you beef” said one of the miscreant, alleged the victim in the viral video. Meanwhile the husband of the victim can also be heard reiterating the allegations made by her wife.

“The people of the Muslim Community told me that your mother has become a Muslim and now you should too join her in accepting Islam, when I refused to agree they barged into my house on the third day and assaulted me along molesting my wife,” alleged victim’s husband in the video.

He further disclosed that the husband of Sapamaran’s Panchayat head, Sahban Ansari also arrived at the spot and tried pressurising him further for accepting Islam. However, when the victims refused to succumb to his pressure, Ansari demanded Rs 10000 for registration of the case.

BJP trained guns at state government

Meanwhile sharing a video of the victims, the state unit president of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP’s) Jharkhand unit, Babu Lal Marandi lashes out at the state of law and order in the State.

In a lengthy post on social media X, Marandi quoted that “the game of conversion is continuing in Jharkhand. The government is silent, the administration is maintaining silence, the public is troubled and there is no solution to stop conversions in Jharkhand.”

Cases of conversion are coming to light every day in the coalition government of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress. Forcible religious conversion has become a practice in Jharkhand. To do the politics of vote bank, the Hemant government has given audacity to a particular community to threaten, scare and kill, added Marandi.

He further while quoting the details of the incident remarked that “first the women of the tribal families were forced to marry and then convert to another religion, when they refused they were killed and their bodies were chopped into pieces and thrown away, now the same is happening with the Hindu families”.

Notably, incidents pertaining to forced conversion activities have surfaced on a number of occasion from the State marred by the infiltration of Bangladeshi intruders, often triggering outrage from the local community against planned bid of conversion related activities.

These incidents along with growing disputes of communal nature in the bordering parts of the State has already sparked an extended tug of war between the ruling alliance and the opposition in the poll bound state where while the BJP is alleging the ruling alliance for the appeasement politics, the latter on the other hand has been accusing the BJP for doing polarization.
