Uttar Pradesh: Yogi Adityanath govt works to make UP Aatmanirbhar in power generation

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has introduced a roadmap to make Uttar Pradesh self- reliant in power generation. UP will add 10 new thermal power plants to the state over the next three years. Experts view this as CM Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh following the mantra of Aatmanirbhar Bharat given by Prime Minister of Bharat Narendra Modi.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has begun the work to make Uttar Pradesh self – reliant in power generation on a mission mode. UP will add 10 new thermal power plants to the state over the next three years.

The ten new thermal power stations planned for the state include the 561 MW Ghatampur Unit-1 (by July 2024), 400 MW Singrauli Stage Three Unit-1 (by August 2027) and 400 MW Singrauli Stage Three Unit-2 (by August 2027) among the ten thermal power plants planned to added.

The action plan has been initiated in the backdrop of various states of Bharat experiencing increased demand for power supply over the last few years.

According to the Grid India Power Supply Report, on June 10, 2024, Uttar Pradesh surpassed states like Maharashtra-Gujarat and secured the first position by supplying 28,889 MW of electricity, that gets UP the top spot in the country.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bharat has already achieved the feat of providing power connections to 100 per cent house-holds. In the initial years of his second-term a target of 24×7 electricity supply to all households was set by PM Narendra Modi.

As per reports, the state of Uttar Pradesh, under CM Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, added another feather to its cap in its pursuit of supplying electricity 24×7 to all households in the state.

As per Consumer Service Rating of Discoms (CSRD) Report FY 2022-23, there has been improvement in the number of DISCOMs securing better grading for the services delivered by them to the consumers. For the year 2023-24, Uttar Pradesh’s DISCOMs Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL) found a place in the A+ category.

Consumer Service rating of DISCOMs (CSRD) was launched by Hon’ble Power Minister in 2022 To help DISCOMs self-evaluate their performance and also compare it with their peer DISCOMs and national averages. The exercise delves into key parameters of consumer services viz. operational reliability; connection services; metering, billing & collection services and fault rectification & grievance redressal.

Additionally, Experts suggest that the key to providing 24×7 rural power supply also lies with feeder segregation for Gramin Bharat, including Gramin UP.

Feeder segregation can be inferred as separating power supply between domestic and irrigation purposes. In this critical aspect as well, Uttar Pradesh finds a place in the list of top achievers with More than 65 per cent of the total feeders of the state already separated.

The above parameters are among the most critical parameters in ensuring 24×7 power supply, without compromising with seamless power supply to Gramin Bharat as well as Gramin UP.

Political Pundits view UP’ performance with Yogi Adityanath as Chief Minister as following the mantra of Aatmanirbhar Bharat given by Prime Minister of Bharat Narendra Modi.

Although all the states of Bharat do not supply 24×7 electricity, particularly 24×7 rural power supply, the average power supply in India is for 23.5 hours per day in the urban areas and 20.5 hours in the rural areas.

Experts suggest a few ways to provide 24×7 electricity to the nation, with an increased emphasis to 24×7 rural power supply. These include making DISCOMS focus on enhancing the quality and reliability of their supply and maintenance services.
