Accusing institutions such as the CBI and ED of operating under the influence of the BJP-led Central government, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi delivered a stern warning on Friday, March 29, asserting that those undermining democracy would face consequences once the government changes hands.
The Congress party echoed Gandhi’s sentiment, emphasising the gravity of his statement in a post shared on X.
“If these institutions had done their job properly, If CBI, ED had done their jobs.. there would have been no problem,” Gandhi expressed, lamenting the perceived failure of key investigative bodies.

“Someday, BJP’s government will change. Then, there will be action. And the action will be so stern that this will never happen again. This is my guarantee,” he affirmed, underlining his commitment to rectify perceived injustices once power dynamics shift.
Gandhi’s warning follows the receipt of a fresh income tax notice by the Congress party, demanding a payment of Rs 1,823.08 crore. The party further alleged that the BJP had also flouted income tax laws, claiming that it should receive a demand notice of Rs 4,600 crore.
In response to the income tax demand, Congress declared its intent to stage a nationwide protest over the weekend, decrying the purported attack on democracy and denouncing what it termed as “tax terrorism” amidst the looming Lok Sabha elections.
Calling upon its state units, the party urged for “massive public demonstrations at the state and district headquarters” across the country on Saturday and Sunday, signaling its resolve to challenge what it perceives as an assault on democratic principles.
Speaking at a press briefing held at the AICC headquarters, Congress leader Ajay Maken emphasised the mandatory requirement for political parties to complete Form 24A, a proforma necessitating the disclosure of two fundamental pieces of information: the identities and addresses of their donors.
“We have meticulously scrutinized all the submissions made by the BJP to the Election Commission (EC). The party has consistently failed to meet the necessary requirements each year,” asserted Ajay Maken.
