Security forces on Friday, February 16 tasted major success after it busted an impermanent Maoist camp being operated in Maoist affected Goilkera police station limits of West Singhbum district, said police. The forces also unearthed as many as three Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) during the search operation under the Tonto police station limits and destroyed it subsequently.

According to the details shared by the Chaibasa police, a counter-insurgency drive was launched against the insurgents by a joint team of Jharkhand Jaguar (JJ), Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Friday.

The joint team during the operation seized batteries, wires, cutter alongside different materials pertaining to daily use, indicating presence of the Maoist near the spot. The development occurred a day after security forces in a separate operation launched on Thursday, discovered and destroyed two tiffin bombs from the Goilkera police station limits itself.

The operations launched in the region was part of the ongoing campaign of the security forces against the extremist in the Kolhan region considered as a last held hotbed of insurgency in Jharkhand.

It is worth mentioning here, that the security forces along with the Jharkhand police have achieved commendable success on the Maoist front in recent few years, reducing the spread of the insurgency in the State to a few pockets only. The success of the forces in reducing the geographical regions earlier held by the Maoist has also exerted pressure on their top commanders resulting in their surrender before the police.

Earlier in one such development, a zonal commander of the banned outfit had turned himself and surrendered before the Latehar police on Saturday, February 10. The zonal commander identified as Laldip Ganjhu alias Kaltu was carrying a bounty of Rs10 lakhs on his head and a total of 15 cases have been pending against him at separate police station of Jharkhand and neighboring Bihar, informed Jharkhand police.

Arms, IEDs seized in Chhattisgarh

In a similar development reported from insurgency-hit Dantewada and Bijapur districts of Chhattisgarh, the security forces in separate operations have seized arms, IEDs and explosives making materials from the possession of the Maoist.

According to the reports, a gunfight occurred between the Maoist and a joint team of CRPF, Bastar Fighters and District Reserve Guards (DRG) who was out on a search operation upon receiving intel about the presence of the extremists near Rampur village of Dantewada on Friday.

Its been learned that the Maoist opted to retreat and fled the spot after sensing the upper hand of the forces in the gunfight. Following the withdrawal of the Ultras, the joint team conducted a thorough search in the vicinity and seized arms, tiffin bombs, uniforms and other materials from the spot.

In another development, the soldiers of the CRPF 222 battalion during an operation in the Bijapur district unearthed an IED weighing 8kg. The said IED was subsequently destroyed successfully by the forces on the spot.
