In yet another success for the “Poona Narkom” (New Morning) campaign being run by the district administration and security forces in insurgency-hit Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, as many as four cadres of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) have surrendered before the police on Monday, February 12.
According to the information shared by the district police, the surrendered Maoists include of three militia members and a head of the Chetna Natya Mandali (CNM), an offshoot of the banned CPI Maoist. Those who have surrendered have been identified as Jan militia group members Madavi Deva, Madavi Kumar both residents of Chintagufa police Station limits and Deva Madavi, a resident of Mailasoor under Bhejji police station limits.
One of the surrendered cadres, Madavi Hinga, a resident of Golaguda Patelpara under Jagargunda police station was active as a head of the CNM under Kamaram Revolutionary People Committee (RPC) of the extremists. Hinga was carrying a bounty of Rs1 lakh on his head.
The surrender took place before the senior officials of the district police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), which has been a driving force behind the surrender of the ultras. Those who have surrendered were inspired by the surrender and rehabilitation policy of the State government, under which the flagship campaign of Poona Narkom is being run.

It must be noted that the surrender that occurred on Monday is a continuation of the ongoing string of surrenders of the former cadres of the banned outfit who have opted to part ways with the proscribed outfit, citing discrimination in the organisation and disbelief in the Maoist ideology recently.
Notably, in a significant development reported from Jharkhand, a Maoist commander carrying a reward of Rs 10 lakh had also surrendered before the Latehar police on February 10. The surrendered Maoist was identified as zonal commander Laldip Ganjhu alias Kaltu. A total of 15 cases have already been pending against Ganjhu at separate police station in Jharkhand and neighbouring Bihar, according to police on February 10.
Ganjhu was associated with the outlawed Maoist outfit for around 20 years and was operating as a zonal commander in the Latehar and Chatra bordering regions until recently. According to the details received, he was active along with seasoned Maoists like Manohar Ganjhu, Chandan Singh Kherwar, and Kundan Singh Kherwar.
In another similar development reported from Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, a Maoist couple along with a senior Maoist cadre carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh had also surrendered before the forces on February 06. The surrendered Maoists were identified as Somaru Kadti, Sukka Oyaam, and his wife, Sarita Oyaam.
According to the police, one of the Maoists was active as a member of the Maded Area Committee of the banned outfit while the couple were part of the Chetna Natya Mandali (CNM) of the Jagargunda Area Committee of the extremists. The development occurred a day after another seasoned cadre of the outlawed Maoist outfit had also surrendered before the Sukma police on Monday, February 05.

Muchaki Mukesh (35), an Area Committee Member (ACM) of the Malengar Area Committee of the proscribed Communist Party of India (Maoist), surrendered before the police on Monday. The surrendered Maoist was carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head, informed the Sukma police in a social media post.
Muchaki, a resident of Sopiras village under Gadiras police station limits of Sukma district had joined the Maoist outfit in the year 2005 and has been an active member of the banned outfit since then, barring a period of one year when he was residing at his house between 2012-13.
It is worth mentioning here that as many as two hardcore female cadres of the banned Maoist outfit had also surrendered before the police in Maoist infested Boudh district of Odisha on Sunday, February 4.
The surrender took place at DPO conference hall at Boudh, where both the female Maoist cadre surrender before the Inspector General of police Berhampur and other senior officials of the police, informed Boudh police on Tuesday, February 6.
