The Bhumi Pooja ceremony for the construction of the Dr Hedgewar Smriti Mandir took place in Kandakurti, the ancestral village of Dr Keshavram Baliram Hedgewar, the founder of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Sri Bhuvaneshwari Peetadhipathi Sri Pujya Swamiji Kamalananda Bharti officiated the ceremony.

The organisation overseeing the project, Sri Kesava Seva Samithi, has a broader vision beyond just building the memorial hall. They are implementing a comprehensive plan to transform Kandakurti into a hub for social and spiritual development. As part of the celebrations for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s 100th anniversary by 2025, the organisation is also establishing a school, shelter home, and youth training centers for managing various service programs.

Kandakurti, with its historical significance as the birthplace of Dr Hedgewar, holds a special place in the hearts of RSS swayamsevaks and the community. This sacred land is deeply rooted in spiritual history, featuring revered sites such as the Triveni Sangam Kshetra, a centuries-old Rama Temple, the self-manifested Amriteshwar Temple along the banks of the Godavari river, and the Shani Temple built by Sri Sitaram Tyagi Maharaj of Ayodhya. Over the centuries, pilgrims and sadhus have been drawn to these sacred places.

Sri Pujya Swamiji Kamalananda Bharti emphasised the sacredness of Kandakurti, citing its ancient history and its role as the birthplace of Bhakti. He expressed optimism that Kandakurti will not only thrive as a significant spiritual center but also as a hub for social development. Swamiji conveyed confidence that the projects aimed at benefiting the village would be successful.

The program saw the participation of Mallaram Shri Lingeswara Gutta Ashram Swamiji Pitla Krishna Maharaj, RSS Telangana Pranta Sanghachalak Shri Burla Dakshinamurthy, Shri Ponnapalli Somayazulu, Seva Bharati Telangana Pramakh Shri Vasu, Sangh Pracharak Shri Sivakumar, local swayamsevaks, Seva Bharati members, Sri Chamkura Sudhakar Reddy, secretary, Mr. Anku Mahesh of Kesava Seva Samiti, and others.

Kandakurti, located in Renjal mandal of Nizamabad district, Telangana, is 330 kms away from Nagpur and 200 kms away from Bhagyanagar.
