New Delhi: News of the allegations against Team India’s captain Rohit Sharma for overspeeding has made headlines. Media reports suggest that he was caught driving on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway at a speed exceeding 200 kilometres per hour. However, an investigation by Organiser revealed that Pune Police refutes any such charges against Rohit.

Reports: Rohit Does Reckless Driving, Speeds at 215 km/h
The news broke on Wednesday, alleging that Rohit Sharma was involved in overspeeding on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. He was reported to be driving his personal Lamborghini car en route to Pune for cricket practice. The reports indicated that Rohit was driving at speeds considerably exceeding 200 km/h, with his Lamborghini even briefly touching speeds of 215 km/h, causing concern among traffic authorities. While the report does not specify the exact date of the incident, it is likely to have occurred between Monday and Tuesday. Rohit and other Indian squad members arrived in Pune on Sunday, and it is plausible that the Indian captain spent a day with his family in Mumbai on Monday, as it was a rest day for all Indian cricketers. Practice resumed on Tuesday evening for their upcoming World Cup match at the MCA Stadium on Thursday.

Claims: Three Traffic Challan Issued
The reports further claimed that due to his alleged overspeeding, traffic police had issued three online Traffic Challan in Rohit Sharma’s name. It was argued that Rohit’s high-speed driving not only put himself at risk but also jeopardized the safety of others on the busy expressway. The reports also suggested that he should have opted for police-secured travel in a team bus during the World Cup.

Organiser reached out to Pune Police to investigate the overspeeding allegations against Rohit Sharma. In response, the police firmly denied any such incident. They refuted the claims of traffic Challan issued to Rohit, stating that no such action had been taken against the cricketer.

Rohit Sharma: India’s Top Run-Scorer in the World Cup

While the veracity of the overspeeding allegations remains in question, it’s hoped that this issue will not impact Rohit Sharma’s current form. Rohit has been an outstanding performer in the ongoing World Cup, having scored 217 runs in just three matches. This includes a century against Afghanistan and a half-century against Pakistan. Today, he is set to lead the team against Bangladesh, the very team against which he scored two centuries in the previous two World Cups.
