Uttar Pradesh: Seven arrested for converting Hindus to Christianity promising “English education and good food”

Yet another case of forced religious conversion to Christianity was reported in Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli district. The people from the Church had lured innocent Hindus with the promise of English education and good food. There have been rampant cases of conversion reported from the state following a similar pattern.

As per the reports, the police arrested as many as seven people involved in the conversion on September 17. Those arrested have been identified as Ram Ratan Shankar, Laxmi Shankar, Rajendra Sewak, Pawan Kishan, Rahul Prasad, Virendra Lal, and Akhilesh Kumar.

Following the arrest, the Station House Officer, Shiv Shankar Sing, said trhat complainant Pitambar Kumar a native of Bindaganj had informed that Ram Ratan Shankar had organised a prayer at his residence on Sunday. He informed that with this prayer he was luring innocent villagers to embrace Christianity by offering them good food and English education.

“A team reached the residence of Ram Ratan to find that they were organizing a prayer and over a dozen villagers were participating. They were being given religious sermons along with booklets and pamphlets while they were being persuaded to convert,” he further added.

Organiser reported a list of seven cases from Kanpur last month where Hindus were lured with money, jobs, food, houses and even marriage to convert to Christianity. A report on the same can be read here.

Organiser also reported a list of cases reported from the Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh where innocent Hindus were lured to Christianity with prayer meetings also called as Chnagai Sabha, a report the same can be seen here.

In 2023, around 90 people have been arrested in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly converting villagers to Christianity.
