The Special Task Force of Assam Police said that six drug dealers with heroin worth Rs 39 crore were arrested in  Guwahati on September 11 mid night. Out of these six arrested drug smugglers, three persons are residents of  Churachandpur in Manipur while three are from Assam.

The Special Task Force (STF) led by DIG Parthasarathi Mahanta and Kamrup district Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Kumar Pathak, conducted a search operation around Guwahati and confiscated the illegal drugs from a car in the Amingaon area.

The arrested drug smugglers have been identified as Samingon Doungel, Gogou Haokip and Haopu Singson from Churachandpur district of Assam. The other three smugglers were identified as Inamul Ali, Khalilur Rahman and Abdul Ali from Assam. Doungel is a resident of Zionveng village under Tuibong police station in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, while Gogou Haokip and Haopu Singson are from neighbouring villages of the same district. While arrested, drug smugglers Khalilur Rahman and Abdul Ali are from Kamrup district, Inamul Ali is from Darrang district.

STF sources said that the consignment of drugs was brought from Manipur via Mizoram and the Barak Valley region of Assam. The smugglers were planning to deliver it somewhere in West Bengal. The market value of seized drugs is around Rs 18 crore, STF said. Further investigation is underway to bust the entire racket behind the drug smuggling.

On September 10, Guwahati city police arrested three persons hailing from Thoubal district natives of Manipur for and seized huge quantities of narcotics from their possession. City police informed that “The arrested smugglers were trafficking narcotic substances from Manipur and travelled via Mizoram, the Barak Valley region of Assam, and Meghalaya before arriving in Guwahati.” 198 soap boxes were recovered from the vehicle which contained 2.527 kg of narcotic substances. The market value of the seized drugs is estimated to be around Rs 21 crore. The arrested drug smugglers were identified as Md Jamir, Md Yakup, Md Amir Khan, all from Thoubal district of Manipur.

Earlier on August 31,  Assam police successfully busted an interstate drug racket and recovered heroin worth Rupees 7 crore in Cachar district. One lady drug smuggler was arrested by Cachar police while recovering the contraband. Based on secret information, Cachar police conducted a raid and seized heroin weighing 1.3 kg worth Rs 7 crore from the residence of the arrested drug smuggler. Police seized the heroin filled in 100 soap boxes weighing 1.3 kg from her residence.

Police sources said that the heroin was illegally transported from Manipur. On August 24, four drug smugglers hailing from Manipur’s Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts were arrested in Assam’s Cachar district while they were smuggling drugs. Cachar police arrested Mamang Haokip (36), Haobem Haokip (30), Henboi Haokip (39) of Churachandpur district and Gogou Paite (30) of Kangpokpi in Manipur.
