Guwahati: Assam BJP district secretary Jonali Nath’s Body was found in Salpara area near National Highway 17. On June 12, killer Hasanur Islam confessed in front of CID that he had an affair with the lady and he wanted to marry another girl. They had arguments, and he killed her by punching her on her face inside his car and dumped her body. This was the confession by the killer to mislead the investigating police team.

The entire scene took another turn when the murder weapon was seized by police from Hasanur Islam’s house on June 15. Police seized a heavy wood stick with blood stains from Hasanur’s house in Matia in the Goalpara district. Killer Hasanur confessed to killing Jonali Nath by hitting her with the recovered heavy piece of wood on her head.

Refuting the earlier statement of IGP CID Devraj Uapdhya about the love angle of the sensational murder, DGP GP Singh said that the matter would be investigated properly and the motive behind the murder will be found out. I have asked the SP to investigate different angles behind the murder, including the microfinance angle, which is also raised by various sections of the society.

DGP GP Singh visited deceased Jonali Nath’s family and apologised for the controversial remarks by senior police officials in a press meet. DGP GP Singh said IGP CID Devraj Upadhya shouldn’t comment like that. Some findings should only be submitted in the court. I have asked the ADG CID to serve an advisory to the IGP CID. I also asked the SP to investigate all angles, including microfinance and political angle to be investigated properly as she was a respected personality in the district.

On June 12, IGP CID Devraj Upadhya, in a media briefing, said that Hasanur Islam had been arrested and he has confessed about the murder in police interrogation. As per the statement of the accused, Hasanur Islam, they had an affair for the last two years. The accused had another affair and wanted to marry the girl with his family’s consent. Hasanur Islam and the deceased Jonali Nath had quarreled over the issue several times. On June 11 evening, the accused called her to meet in the Islampur area. They had hated arguments inside Hasanur Islam’s car, police said. After some time, Hasanur Islam hit her several times, and she died inside the car. The murderer drove her body to a place called Salpara on National Highway 17 in the Goalpara district. He threw her body in Salpara at around 8.30 pm and fled from the spot.

Meanwhile, the husband of the deceased BJP leader lodged an FIR against the insensitive comment given by IGP CID Devraj Upadhya. The FIR stated that the comment by IGP CID Devraj Upadhya would mislead the investigation and would derogate the family’s image in society. Without proper investigation, based on the confession of a criminal, coming to such a conclusion is pure negligence by the senior police officer.

Meanwhile, the police investigation team last night conducted a search operation in several places with killer Hasanur Islam to find out the missing mobile phone and handbag of deceased Jonali Nath. It is suspected that killer Hasanur Islam has hidden the mobile phone. Lots more explosive information will come up once the mobile phone of the deceased BJP is found.

Meanwhile, sensational CCTV footage has been collected by the investigating police team. Murderer Hasanur Islam was seen drinking cold drinks and water in a roadside shop at around 8.12 pm on June 11.

Police suspect Hasanur Islam was caught in CCTV footage while he was on the way to dump the body of Jonali Nath. Police sources said that it was a pre-planned murder as the killer was seen cool all the time in police custody and even tried to mislead the investigation.

Police are also investigating the microfinance angle, which will be disclosed soon with the investigation progress.
