Guwahati: In a sensational incident, a district-level female BJP leader was murdered on June 11 night in Goalpara district. The body of the BJP Goalpara district Secretary Jonali Nath was found dumped near National Highway 17 in the Salpara area.

As per a police source, unidentified miscreants killed the BJP leader and dumped her body in the Salpara area near National Highway 17. Locals discovered her body and informed the police. The police reached the spot and began their investigation.

Several injury marks were found on her body, indicating that the female leader was savagely assaulted before killing her.

The deceased, Jonali Nath, was last seen in the Islampur area of the district on June 11 evening. She was having some discussions in a roadside hotel in Islampur before leaving the place. Police have detained the owner of the hotel Moqbul Hussain for questioning.

According to eyewitnesses, the deceased BJP leader received several calls before leaving the place. Goalpara SP Rakesh Reddy said that the female BJP leader was not sexually assaulted. But several injury marks are there on her body, including one on her head. SP Rakesh Reddy said the investigation is on, and the culprit will be soon arrested.

Jonali Nath’s husband said that she attended a party meeting in the morning in Goalpara town and returned home at around 2.30 in the afternoon. She again left home for Islampur at 4, and after that, she was not in communication with her family. She left behind two minor daughters and her husband. Meanwhile, top police officials, including IGP law and order, rushed to Goalpara for proper investigation of the heinous killing. State BJP president Bhabesh Kalita condemned the murder of the young female leader and requested the Government for a quick investigation to nab the murderer.
