A 17-year-old Muslim girl student studying in a madrasa near Balarampuram in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram allegedly died by suicide at her hostel room.
The deceased girl’s parents have alleged mental harassment by a new teacher at the religious study centre and have sought a probe into the matter.
As per reports, the victim is said to be 17 years old. Her body was discovered hanging at the residential madrassa named Al-Aman.
According to Balarampuram Police, the girl was a native of Beemapalli and she had asked her mother to pick her up from the madrassa on May 13.
According to police the girl’s mother reached the madrassa around 4.30 pm and the authorities asked her to wait till the senior ustaad reached.
Police said around 6.30 pm, the mother was informed that the girl was found unconscious in her room and the mother took her to a private hospital in Neyyattinkara, where was declared dead.
The Victim’s family has alleged that the victim was abused and harassed by the authorities of the madrasa. The girl was reportedly staying inside the campus of the residential institute.
According to the girl’s relatives, she visited her home for Eid two weeks ago and told her mother that a new teacher in the madrassa was mentally harassing her. She returned to the religious study centre on May 2 and again complained about the issue to her mother.
The family has demanded a probe into the matter, seeking details about the problems she faced that led to her ending her life.
The girl’s mother has filed a complaint with the Balarampuram Police soon after, under Section 174 (inquest proceedings) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
Investigations into the case have begun.
