Japan will be training 1000 Indian engineers before the commencement of the High-Speed Rail Tracking System for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR).

According to Rajendra Prasad, the Managing Director (MD) of National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), “Up to twenty Japanese experts will be imparting intensive training to Indian engineers, supervisors and technical workforce and certifying their skills. This will also help in the ‘Transfer of Technology’ of the Japanese HSR (High-Speed Rail) track system.”

The training will be given by JARTS (Japanese Railway Technical Service), which is a non-profit organisation in Japan nominated by JICA (funding agency of the MAHSCR), The JICA Stands for (Japan International Cooperation Agency).

The Training course will involve 15 different courses encompassing all fields of track work such as training for site managers, Track Slab manufacturing, RC Track Bed Construction, Reference Pin Survey and data analysis along with Slab Track Installation, CAM Installation, Rail Wield Finishing, Enclosed Arc Welding of rails and Turnout Installation.

As per a spokesperson from the NHSRCL, the Japanese track system is unique worldwide and technicians will require high-level skill to lay it. “Track is the most important component of the HSR System and needs to be laid with a very high degree of accuracy.”

Training facilities, including three rails, have been designed and created for the Surat Depot. As of now, the training is targeted at work to be undertaken on 237 Km between Vapi and Vadodara.

The bullet train built between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will use the ballast-less track (J-Slab) tracking system used in the Japanese Shinkansen high-speed railways.
