Eminent Islamic bodies throughout Bangladesh organise protests regarding oppression of muslims in East Turkestan by China

On April 5, 2023, numerous protests and conferences were held in different parts of Bangladesh to mark the 33rd anniversary of Baren Revolution in East Turkestan which is popularly known as Xinjiang.

In the capital, Dhaka, the Bangladesh Khilafat Andolan (BKA) organised a conference presided by its leader Shaheed Zaidin Yusuf. During the meeting attendees condemned China for its illegal occupation of East Turkestan and committing atrocities on innocent Uyghur Muslims.

The BKA extended its support to the people of East Turkestan for their freedom from illegal Chinese occupation and urged the international community to come forward and support the cause of Uyghur Muslims.

Later, a protest was held to highlight the issue of settling Han Chinese in East Turkestan to reduce the Uyghur populace. The protestors warned the Chinese government to stop such moves.

Apart from this conference, the Islamic Progotisheel Janta Front also organised a discussion at the Dowa Mehfil, at the Bangladesh Photojournalist Auditorium in Purana Paltan in Dhaka to commemorate Baren Day.

A large number of Islamic Scholars such as Maulana Abdul Rashid Majumdar of Nizam-e-Islam, Maulana Abdul Jafar Kashnemi of the BKA, Maulana Shahid-ul-Islam of Bangladesh Jamiat-Ulema Islam, Maulana Kabir-ul Islam, the adviser of Alem Muktijoddha Projonum Forum along with Maulana Yahiya , the Secretary General of Bangladesh Hifazat-e-Islam attended the meeting at Dowa Mehfil.

In Dhaka University, Bangladesh Muhajir Welfare and Development Committee (BMWDC) also organised protest and demonstrations and human chains. Around 200 protestors distributed leaflets highlighting atrocities committed against Uyghur Muslims by Chinese government.

The BMWDC also submitted a memorandum to the China Embassy. In front of the National press Club at Dhaka, Another group called ‘Open Dialogue Bangladesh’ organised a street play to highlight the oppression of Uyghur Muslims by Chinese occupation forces. Protestors condemned China for Uyghur Genocide.

The protestors and displayed banners and posters highlighting the plight of Uyghurs Muslims In China. In Gazipur, Sanchetan Nagarik Samaj organised a human chain. The protest demonstrations in Gazipur highlighted Chinese genocide of Uyghur Muslims.

The three hundred, expressed some solidarity with the Uyghur Muslims and condemned China for adapting double standards on minority issues. The protestors carried banners and posters highlighting Baren Revolution.

The city of Rangpur was marked by protests and demonstrations-cum discussions by the Muktijoddha Mancha. The protests were held in front of the Bangabandhu Mural near Rangpur Press Club.

The event was attended by around 300-400 people. As per Md. Murad Kausar, the General Secretary of Rangpur City said that around 1000 Uyghur Muslims who raised their voice against Chinese Oppression were killed on this day at Baren City located in Xinjiang Province.

In Khulna, the Alokito Foundation, an NGO and Sammilito Samajik Andolan organised a human chain and processions to commemorate the Baren Revolution Day. The event was attended by about 150-200 protestors including Imams and Maulanas.

Another event was organised in Chattogram by the Bangladeshi Islami Front (BIF). They discussed the Chinese oppressive policies and atrocities on Uyghur Muslims at Chattogram Press Club.

This event was attended by around 600 people including influential Maulanas. While addressing the protestors, the chairman of the BIF, Maulana MA Matin criticised China for continued human rights violations in Xinjiang Province.

The BIF urged the Muslim Ummah to raise a collective voice against China and demanded a boycott of China in Bangladesh.
