On February 6, 2023, a group of miscreants attacked and vandalised the idols of Hindu deities in Narapat Pur Village, Chairaigaon block located in the sacred city of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

The incident occurred at 3 AM in the early morning.

The vandalised idols are of Bhagwan Shiva and Hanuman. The sacred weapon of Bhagwan Shiva (Trishul) and his revered mount Nandi were also removed from the sanctum sanctorum in the temple.

The miscreants did not even spare the donation box in the temple.

The incident came to fore when a local villager Sitaram Yadav arrived at the temple to pray. He was horrified to see the temple and its idols desecrated. Subsequently, a large number of agitated and angry devotees gathered at the temple.

Upon hearing this news, the in-charge of the Chaubepur Police Station, Rajesh Singh arrived at the spot with a heavy police contingent.

The Police pacified the enraged devotees by stating that the idols will be restored and miscreants will eventually be caught and punished.

The Varanasi Police further took to Twitter to inform that a case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the Chaubepur and the police will take proactive steps to resolve the case and nab the accused at the earliest.

The Police informed the devotees that they would capture them through footage from CCTV cameras.

Before this incident, a group of other miscreants robbed the Dih Baba Temple in the Shivpur Police Station Jurisdiction, which is located close to Charaigaon Block. The miscreants broke ten donation boxes in the temple and stole 10 lakh rupees.

The DVR connected to the temple’s CCTV was also damaged by the attackers.

Last year, local Hindu Worshippers caught a youth named Yakub red-handed trying to destroy the idol of the deity placed in a Shiv Temple in Titawi Village, Baghara Block in Muzaffarnagar District of Uttar Pradesh.

The accused Yakub tried to flee but was caught by angry locals and was handed over to the police.
