Acting on a tipoff, the District police of Bokaro arrested notorious Maoist Chandra Manjhi alias Ramchandra Soren in Jharkhand on January 5. Manjhi is considered as one of the masterminds behind the Bokaro blast case of 2006 in which 13 security personnel were martyred.

It’s been learnt that SP Chandan Jha has received secret intel about the presence of Manjhi in the Jamunia forest area of Upar ghat, Bokaro following which police personnel from Penk Narayanpur had launched a manhunt in the area in which Manjhi has been nabbed.

Manjhi has been on a run for quite some time and many cases related to the planting of explosives to attack security personnel have been pending against him in the Nawadih and Bokaro Thermal police stations.

He was involved in planting cane bombs between Penk- Budgada route during the 2014 state assembly elections for which a case has been pending against him, in addition to that he is accused of planting explosives in the Vishnugarh-penk route in 2015, added an official.

He has been paraded before the court from where he has been sent to the Tenughat prison on police remand, learned Organiser.

Chandu Manjhi is the husband of the former mukhiya namely Basanti Devi and has an ancestral house in Jamunia village of Pannk Panchayat. Manjhi’s second wife Bansati Devi won the 2010 panchayat elections with a huge margin.

It should be noted that the security forces in Jharkhand have been continuously running search and combing operations in the Maoist-affected district of the State, which has led to the arrest of many notorious communist terrorists along with their companions in the region.

As per the figures released by the Jharkhand police, a total of 106 senior cadres of the outlawed CPI (Maoists) have been arrested in the last three years alone, this lists include 12 zonal commanders, 30 sub-zonal commanders and 61 area commanders of the outlawed outfit.

Apart from these arrests, a huge number of Maoists have also surrendered before the security agencies in the last year or two. Recently on January 4, 8 members of the proscribed CPI (Maoist) surrendered before the Ranchi police. They all were part of the special assassination group of the central committee of the outlawed outfit.

Two couriers of CPI Maoist were arrested in Charla

In another Maoist-related development, two couriers of the banned outfit CPI Maoists were arrested by the Charla police on January 5, 2023.

As per the information, both the couriers were in constant touch with the divisional secretary of the CPI Maoists, Azad and had supplied essential commodities along with explosives to the Maoists in the past as well.

The arrested suppliers have been identified as P Sammaiyah and his lady companion Satyaveni, both residents of Charla police station of the insurgency-hit Bhadradi Kothgudem district of Telangana.

It’s been learnt that the accused were nabbed during a vehicle checking exercise in the outskirts of Charla town, 10 pressure cookers, 200 meters of codex wire and other substantial materials used in bomb-making have been recovered from them, confirmed an official familiar with the development.

It should be noted that Bhadradri Kothagudem district shares a long border with Chhattisgarh and is considered to be badly affected by Left-wing Extremism.
