New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar and the Foreign Minister of Vietnam Bui Thanh Son launched the joint logo for the celebration of 50 years of India-Vietnam Diplomatic Relations in
Delhi on June 17.

This was launched on the sidelines of a Special ASEAN-India Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

The logo has been selected jointly by the two sides through a contest open to nationals of both countries. The image represents the long-standing friendship between India and Vietnam symbolically through a peacock and a crane, the birds of national importance in the two countries respectively.

It also includes the numeral 50 to denote the 50 years of diplomatic relations and the national flags of India and Vietnam at its Centre.

On the sidelines of the Special ASEAN-India Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, External Affairs Minister, Dr Jaishankar also had a series of bilateral engagements with his counterparts from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

In his meeting with the Foreign Minister of Brunei, Dato Erywan Pehin Yusof both the Ministers reviewed the progress in bilateral relations. They agreed that cooperation in the fields of trade and investment, hydrocarbons and petrochemicals, space, agriculture and pharmaceuticals should be further strengthened.

With his Indonesian counterpart Mrs Retno Marsudi, Dr Jaishankar held the 7th Joint Commission Meeting.

The Ministers signed the “Agreement on exemption from visa requirement for holders of diplomatic and official/service passports”. They also witnessed the exchange of “MoU between the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) of India and National Narcotics Board of Indonesia on combating illicit trafficking in Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and their Precursors”.

An MoU was inked between National Sugar Institute, Kanpur and Politeknic Perkebunan LPP, Yogyakarta, an MEA statement said.

Singapore Foreign Minister, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan met Dr Jaishankar and discussed various aspects of the multifaceted relations between the two countries including in areas such as trade and investment, digital economy and FINTECH, and green growth.

They also had a wide-ranging conversation on global geopolitical challenges and developments in the region.

Both the Ministers agreed on the need to give the relationship a new impetus for further growth through greater ministerial-level engagements.
