A purported Halal compliance certificate of the Himalaya Drug company has gone viral on social media platforms.

The purported Halal Policy certificate says, “We the members of the Himalaya Drug company are honestly committed to maintain Halalness of the …(herbal/chemical/food colour)…products produced by us in order to fulfil the obligation for Muslims to consume Halal products.”

It claims that the Himalaya products “comply with Islamic Law/Shariah and are free from any forbidden ingredients under Islamic law.”

Claiming that it takes every precaution to ensure its products are fully Halal-compliant, the viral certificate claimed, “We have set up the Internal Halal management Team comprising of senior executives (including Muslim) from various disciplines to be responsible for all matters pertaining to Halal certification.”

Islamists started trolling writer Ratan Sharda for posting this Halal certificate picture.

Sharda replied, “For people who think I don’t know its founder being Muslim. Let me say, I knew and I had no problem. He was making high quality ayurveda medicines. But, how can Hindu knowledge-based Ayurveda have #halal twist? Not acceptable.”

In July last year, an email reply in 2015 from Himalaya to a customer went viral. The mail reply assured the customer that the Himalaya products were Halal certified.

“Dear Mr Singh Thank you for contacting us once again. Presently, our Pure Herb capsule shells (including Neem, Tulasi & Lasuna) available in Indian market are hard Gelatin. The gelatin capsules contain Pharmaceutical grade gelatin which is of Bovine bone origin and Halal certified. Our best wishes towards your well-being. Regards,” the reply from the Himalaya read.

In a story published in July last year, AltNews wrote, “While a Himalaya spokesperson did not clarify if the 2015 email is authentic or not, as per our sources the email is genuine.”

The same story further says, “Himalaya Drug Company page, previously known as Himalaya Health Care, establishes that neem, tulasi, and lasuna supplements were indeed sold in capsule form. The page doesn’t state that the product was 100% vegetarian.”

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary CT Ravi said that this Halal certification is an economic jihad and everyone should fight it. “No more HALAL PRODUCTS for Hindus. Let us fight unitedly against Economic JIHAD!!!,” he posted on Twitter.
