Guwahati: "The recent eviction of Dhalpur, Gorukhuti in Darrang district, is a warning to the illegal settlers in Assam. We will not allow illegal encroachers to grab our land anymore, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday in Sivasagar. Campaigning for the upcoming by-polls in the Thowra constituency," Dr. Sarma said the Congress party betrayed the whole country and the indigenous Assamese people.
The Congress party was in power for most of the time after independence in Assam, and under their patronage, lower and middle Assam became a haven of doubtful citizens, he added. Attacking the Congress, he further said, the Congress party acts as a saviour to the illegal encroachers of Batadrava and Kaziranga. Now the Congress leadership tries to safeguard the encroachers of Dhalpur and Girukhuti. Congress leaders like Bharat Ratna Gopinath Bordoloi fought with the central leadership to save the interest of the people of Assam, but now the Congress leadership betrays Assam and Assamese people for vote bank politics, Dr Sarma said. The chief minister further stated that the government would no longer allow anybody to grab lands in Assam illegally.
On Tuesday, Dr. Sarma also criticised the left liberals for their support of the illegal encroachers of Dhalpur, Gorukhuti. He said the left-liberals criticised and opposed the eviction drives in Dhalpur, but the same section of left-liberals are silent when there is massive violence against the Hindu community in Bangladesh. Dr. Sarma said the left-liberals are trying to diminish the faith of the Hindus with some narratives created by them. The left even tried to establish Guru Sankardev as a communist, but the whole idea of communism came much after Srimanta Shankardev's era, the CM stated.
