Union Minister Sonowal reiterated that PM Narendra Modi led central government is committed to elevate the economic proposition of the region and provide the launchpad for the country’s next economic growth.

Guwahati: The northeastern (NE) region possesses the greatest potential for the next phase of economic growth of Bharat. The diversity of flora in the region, along with the rich heritage of traditional medicine, will act as a catalyst for the development of AYUSH based industries here, said Union ports, shipping & waterways along with AYUSH Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

Attending a review meeting of the northeastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homeopathy held at Umiam locality in Ri Bhoi district of Meghalaya on Saturday (October 9), Sonowal reiterated that PM Narendra Modi led central government is committed to elevate the economic proposition of the region and provide the launchpad for the country’s next economic growth.

The saffron leader stressed the quality education in Ayurveda nursing and pharmacy and short-term professional courses in Panchkarma therapy so that the northeastern students, along with other parts of the country, can avail it to pave the way for economic growth.

Highlighting the rich & dynamic flora that nature has bestowed on the region, Sonowal pointed out that it will inspire the AYUSH based industries to look at the region as their next destination. Promising that the Centre would take initiatives for the all-round development of the institute, he also declared that necessary steps would be taken to start PG courses and stipend for the interns.

Earlier, Sonowal, on a separate occasion, inaugurated the girl’s hostel for undergraduate students and play-grounds at the National Institute of Homoeopathy in Kolkata. He also announced the proposed boy’s hostel, increment of stipend to internees, new construction for an auditorium, etc.

In his address, the minister revealed that Homoeopathy is gaining acceptance and growing in popularity worldwide. In India, after independence, Homoeopathy has assumed prominence as a system of medicine and has become very popular throughout the country, he stated, adding that the government has been according to priority for its development and the traditional systems of medicine.

Sonowal mentioned that the government had brought the manufacturing & sale of Homoeopathic medicine under the purview of the drugs and cosmetic act & rules. He also added that the central government had established the central council for research in Homoeopathy. The institution carries out intramural research through its units across the country with its prioritized areas of disease based and drug-based researches, drug proving and literary works.

“I hope the National Institute of Homoeopathy is putting its best foot forwarded in showing its mettle. The future of Homoeopathy is very good provided the profession transforms this evidence-based science into an experimentally acceptable scientific medical system,” said Sonowal expressing his best wishes and compliments to the institute.
