The Hemant Soren government of Jharkhand on Thursday (August 5) decided to drop Hindi and Sanskrit from the list of compulsory optional languages for Grade 3 and 4 jobs in Jharkhand.
For obtaining a Grade 3 and 4 government job in Jharkhand, one has to pass the exam conducted by Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).
The appearing students have to opt a language paper from a list of 12 languages. The marks obtained in this paper are counted towards the final merit.
Earlier, Hindi and Sanskrit were available as optional languages. But now they have been dropped. Urdu has been retained.
“Earlier, subjects like Hindi, Sanskrit and Urdu were also in the list of main language papers. But the new policy has kept Urdu but dropped Hindi and Sanskrit. How is Urdu a regional language but Hindi is not? It smacks of appeasement. By the new policy, the government is discriminating against people living in certain regions of the state”, Hindustan Times quoted BJP’s Pratul Shahdeo.
