The Lok Sabha Monday passed the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2021.
The bill aims to remove any ambiguity about the division of power between the Lieutenant Governor and the elected government of the city-state.

It was introduced in the House on March 15.

The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy told the press that the centre and the Delhi governments had enjoyed cordial relations since 1996. But, since 2015 some confusion had started creeping in about the governance structure.

The minister said the bill would dom away with such confusions.

Since the Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party has come to power, there has been friction between the Delhi government and the centre many times.

The bill defines the powers of the LG as well as of the assembly and chief minister of Delhi.

Kejriwal has been accusing the centre of stealing the mandate of the people of Delhi.
