A CPM Councillor and three party workers are facing rape charges after the victim made public statement

T Satisan, Kochi

CPM in Kerala is in a total mess. While the CPM-led LDF has failed to maintain law and order situation intact, the latest insult to the CPM’s injury is the sex scandals ruling the roost in Kerala. The worst among them is the alleged gang rape of a homemaker by four men led by Jayanthan, the CPM Municipal Councillor in Vadakkancherry, Thrissur District. The victim took up the matter with the famous film dubbing artist, Malayalam movie actress and social activist Bhagyalakshmi the other day. When she posted the alarming story she heard from the victim and her husband, on Facebook, the whole Malayali community was shell-shocked. The men who were close family friends of the couple came to their house and took the victim out in their car under the pretext of taking her to the hospital where the husband was lying seriously ill. And, they took her to an isolated house and gang raped her. Afterwards, they threatened her of dire consequences if she leaked the incident. They even told her, they would leak her undesirable videos if she disobeyed their ‘order.’

Newborn denied milk: Fanatics behind the bars

The father of the new born baby and his religious preacher are arrested in Mukkam, near Kozhikode, for denying breast milk to the newborn baby. Baby’s father Abubaker insisted on giving the breast milk to the newborn only after five bank prayers in the mosque (after the fifth Azan call after birth). That is what his priest Hydrose Thangal had advised him! The baby was born by mid-day on November 1. But, the baby had to wait until November 2 afternoon before getting the first drop of the breast milk, thanks to the strict religious faith! The case has been registered with the Hafsath, the mother of the baby as the first accused and Abubaker as the second, under Sections 75 and 87 for denying the right of the child. But, instead of condemning the foolish and superstitious faiths, some faithfuls use social media to justify the uncivilised act. They even go to the extent of saying that breast milk is not a must for the first 24 hours; instead, water will do!    —T Satisan

A couple of days after the Facebook post, Bhagyalakshmi and Parvathi, another social activist known to be a diehard CPM supporter, took the couple to Thiruvananthapuram Press Club. They addressed a crowded press conference along with both women activists. Naturally, DGP and other authorities could no longer ignore it. The couple alleged, Circle Inspector (CI) of Police kept on taunting the victim asking her harassing, insulting and obscene questions. The victim alleged, there was no woman police around when the CI kept on asking her dirty questions.
Now, in the latest leg of the episode, CPM Thrissur District secretary K Radhakrishnan (former assembly speaker and former minister) disclosed the name of the victim. This is said to be against the ruling of the Supreme Court of India. While Health Minister Shailaja supported his stand, Radhakrishnan has invited the wrath of all non-Communist parties. BJP president Kummanam Rajasekharan lodged a complaint with the DG of Police in view of the non-bailable offence Radhakrishnan has committed as per IPC 278 A. National Women’s Commission has issued a notice to the CPM leader instructing him to give an explanation within 48 hours. The accused are still roaming free; no police action so far.
Meanwhile, a degree student from Palakkad was brought to Kollam, a distant district, by her friends and gang raped by seven of them. Police arrested a youth in Kalady for attempting to rape a minor girl. Some strangers crashed into the house of a 17-year-old college student and raped her in Kothamangalam. A pastor videographed the nudity of a young woman, blackmailed her and raped her several times in Kochi. So, the observers ask if this is what CPM meant when they propagated their election slogan “LDF will come, everything will be alright!”
