Dr Vishwas of Samskrit Bharati gets Sahitya Academy Award

SAMSKRIT Bharati’s Akhil Bharatiya Prashikshan Pramukh Dr Vishwas was awarded with the reputed Sahitya Academy Award for translation. He received the award of 2010 for translating well known littérateur Dr SL Bhairappa’s most debated Kannada novel Avarana into Sanskrit.

Dr Vishwas is considered to be one of the top most contemporary analysts of Sanskrit literature in India. He has travelled in many states of India and abroad mainly for the better canvas of Sanskrit literature. He has authored many books including Matte Hottitu Heebru Hanate, Apashchimaha Pashchime, Pididu Samskrita Sootrava, Hemacchakatika, etc in Sanskrit and Kannada. He has also authored a few Sanskrit books for learning the language. Koushala Bhodhinee is a popular handbook for Sanskrit tuitors across the globe with creative teaching skills. His weekly column ‘Sangata’ in Hosadiganta, a Kannada daily, and his television interaction programmes in DD-Bharati are popular among elite audience. With hundreds of speeches and articles, Dr Vishwas is a noted Sanskrit intellectual. He was also in the syllabus committee of Sanskrit for class 5, 6 and 7, Government of Karnataka.

Hailing from Sringeri of Chikmagalur district of Karnataka, Dr Vishwas is now settled in Mangalore. His wife Dr Shantala also works for Samskrit Bharati, spreading Sanskrit throughout the world. Their two children Vidhisha and Vidhita also speak fluent Sanskrit for all domestic communications as their mother tongue.
