BJP leaders Kiren Rijiju and Pralhad Joshi criticised a mimicry act involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme in Indore.
The ministers questioned the conduct of the event and objected to what they described as remarks directed at the Prime Minister and his late mother.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju strongly criticised the Congress following the mimicry performance at the student programme.
In a post on X, Rijiju said, “The Congress party has become a party of comedians and jokers.” He further wrote that the Congress was “gone forever” and ended his post with the words, “Rest in peace.”
Rijiju’s remarks came after a video from the Indore event showed a performer mimicking Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The performance became a point of political controversy after BJP leaders objected to the content and the setting in which it took place.
Pralhad Joshi questions political culture
Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi also criticised Rahul Gandhi and the Congress over the incident.
Joshi said Rahul Gandhi and the Congress had reached what he described as the “lowest level of moral bankruptcy.” He particularly objected to the alleged reference to Prime Minister Modi’s late mother during the performance.
According to Joshi, using a programme involving students to mock or insult the Prime Minister’s late mother showed a “shocking lack of basic human sensitivity and political culture.”
The Education Minister’s criticism focused on the nature of the performance and its alleged references to the Prime Minister’s family.
Mimicry at student programme sparks row
The mimicry took place during Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme in Indore, which was organised around interaction with students and discussion of education, examinations, recruitment and employment issues.
The event later drew attention for the political controversy surrounding the stage performance. BJP leaders questioned whether such a performance was appropriate at a programme presented as a platform for students.
The BJP leaders’ statements have added another political dimension to the Indore event, with the focus shifting from the student interaction to the remarks and performance involving the Prime Minister.
