IN a letter to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Shri BB Jamatia, president of Janjati Dharma Sanskriti Suraksha Manch has made a request to institute a National Enquiry Commission headed by a retired judge of Supreme Court to investigate the hostile role and anti-national activities of church in the sensitive, volatile, vulnerable and strategic zone of Northeast Bharat. Shri Jamatia stated that with the help of militant organisations, church has been very aggressive in Garo and Rabha inhabitation. Even after when Rabha Hindus and remaining portion of Garo Hindus refused to convert, the church applied the tactics of offering booze, bullets and Bible. In doing so, church has centuries’ old experience in this field at international fora.

The memorandum to Prime Minister states that in Northeast Bharat, the church is successful in Nagaland, Mizoram and to some extent in Meghalaya. The mechanism of church is very clear in Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh as well.

Shri Jamatia states, “There is always some discontent and displeasure between two neighbouring communities. It is also there in one section of the same community against the other. The church fuels this discontent against the traditional society. This has exactly happened in the current clash between Garos and Rabhas. The conversion crusade and hate campaign are the central theme behind this clash”.

It is more disgusting when a converted Rabha is pitted against the Hindu Rabhas for gathering information and supplying it to church masters. Since Rabhas have refused to respond to the conversion offensive of church, the missionaries thought of teaching them a lesson. The present clash between Garos and Rahbas is the result of this church conspiracy. They have destroyed 10 Rabha temples whereas churches are intact even in remotest Garo villages. Similarly, mosques are also intact even in inaccessible villages. As per the letter, 99 per cent Rabhas are Hindu whereas there are only 20 per cent Garos who are Hindu. 80 per cent of them have fallen into the trap of church. The Christian militant organisations, fanatic Government officers of Meghalaya Government and selfish politicians from Meghalaya and Assam are reported to be behind the clash. Church acts as the coordinating agency in teaching a lesson to “unresponsive” Rabhas.

About destructive role of Bangladeshi Muslims, the letter states that there are Bangladeshi Muslims who are trying to oust Rabha Hindus from their fertile land and occupy their land forcefully.

Shri Jamatia says that the involvement of church in Garo-Rabha clash is not an isolated case. This is a very effective mechanism of church for mass-conversion. He narrates that the hostile role of church was also witnessed during unprecedented scale of violence in the district of Karbi Anlong and Dima Hasao (then North Cachar Hills) involving widespread killing and arson claiming more than a hundred innocent human lives that occurred during September to December 2005. But even after the constant hammering of the church, the Karbis and Dimasas-both rejected Christianity. Again Dima Hasao district caught flame of violence and smokes of gun powder during the period from March to July 2009 in and around Haflong. This time it was between Jeme Nagas and Dimasas. Most of Jeme Nagas and Dimasas are traditional Hindus. In this Jeme-Dimasa clash 40 Jemes and 26 Dimasas were killed, 700 houses were reduced to ashes. Prior to this in 2003, there was Hamar-Dimasa clash wherein many innocent people were killed and scores of houses were burnt. In all these exoduses, the involvement of church in league with militant organisation was reported.

Janjati Dharma Sanskriti Suraksha Manch also demanded sufficient relief, rehabilation and resettlement of people from Garo and Rabha communities who have fallen prey of January genocide.
