About 17 years ago, in 1992, Sister Abhaya’s body was found in the well of Pious X Convent in Kottayam. Despite clear indications of murder, local police, crime branch, closed it as a case of suicide. Human rights activist Joemon Puthenpurakkal took up the case and court ordered CBI enquiry. The State was then ruled by the Congress which had the full support of the Christian church. The church influence, could even hold to ransom, P V Narasimha Rao and then CBI Director Vijayarama Rao. The CBI disposed off the case, as of suicide.

But due to the persistent efforts of Joemon and the media and despite church influencing Sonia, CBI arrested Fr. Thomas Kotoor, Fr. Jose Purthrukayil and Sr. Sephy for murder of Sister Abhaya, a few months back.

Brain mapping and narco-analysis was conducted on them at the reputed Central Forensic Science Labs in Bangalore. Internationally acclaimed Dr Malini and Dr Krishnaveni did the tests. In the meantime reports came out that the vaginal swab results of Sister Abhaya conducted at the Chief Chemical Examiners Lab in Thiruvananthapuram were tampered. Later the truth was exposed that Sister Abhaya was raped before murder. Reports also came that Justice Cyriac Joseph of the Supreme Court visited the CFSL at Bangalore and viewed the narco-CDs of Sister Abhaya’s murder and expressed good opinion of the work done by the lab.

The narco CDs of the three accused clergy, were telecasted by electronic media, later CBI handed them over to the court.

In the CDs the priests clearly admit to the murder of Sister Abhaya. Fr. Kotoor and Fr. Puthrukayil had immoral relations with Sr. Sephy, who was the warden of the convent. After the convent doors were closed, she used to open the kitchen door, to let the fathers in. On that fateful day, as usual, she had opened the doors and the fathers and herself were in the kitchen. Sister Abhaya who had come to the kitchen to drink water, had seen them in a compromising position. Sr. Sephy admits to hitting her with an iron axe on the back side of Sister Abhaya’s head. The unconscious and bleeding Abhaya was then raped by the three fathers! Are they human beings or vultures? Then all three of them threw her in the well.

The church is now breaking its head on the telecast of the CDs saying it is violation of human rights and concerted bid to tarnish church. But does not Sister Abhaya have human rights and right to live? Instead of protecting these vultures, the church would do good to disown these animals.

A few months back, Sr. Jesme, who was thrown out of the church, had written a book Ameen. She discloses the immoral relations going on in the church including lesbianism, molestation and rape of nuns, financial irregularities, commercialisation of professional institutions, hospitals, etc.

The church that spread false rumours against Hindus in Jabua, Orissa, etc. should correct itself before throwing stones from glass houses. Late Pope John Paul II had publicily apologised for the inhuman activities of priests against nuns. Let the Kerala churches throw out these murderers and stop protecting these vultures, if they have little regard for Pope John Paul II, Ameen!
