Punjab University unit of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad organised a blood donation camp on March 26 in Chandigarh. A total of 52 students donated blood to pay tribute to Sardar Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru, who laid down their lives for freedom of the country. Shri Ramesh Pappa, secretary general of World Organisation of Students and Youth (WOSY) was the chief speaker. Shri Hiralal Mahajan, a social worker, presided over the function. Prof. Naval Kishor, Dean of the University, and Kumari Mukta Sharma, ABVP national executive member, were also present on the occasion. (FOC)
AKHIL Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and World Organisation of Students and Youth (WOSY) expressed deep concern over the current situation in Tibet. WOSY urged the international community including the United Nations, governments, parliaments and human rights groups to effectively pressurise the Chinese leadership to immediately stop repression of Tibetan youths and restore normalcy in Tibet. ?Chinese government should invite the Dalai Lama for meaningful dialogue and negotiations for the autonomy to Tibet. Further, the United Nations Human Rights Council should immediately send a fact-finding delegation to all the affected areas in Tibet to prevent further deterioration of the critical situation,? WOSY said in a statement.
Meanwhile the Shimla unit of ABVP organised a dharna in support of the ongoing agitation of Tibetans. Students from Himachal Pradesh University and various colleges participated in the dharna. A good number of Tibetans also joined the dharna. Shri Ramesh Pappa, general secretary of WOSY, was the chief speaker. Others who addressed the dharna included ABVP Shimla unit president Shri Nitin Vyas, State secretary Kumari Manchali Thakur, HP University students president Shri Naveen Sharma, ABVP north zone organising secretary Shri Bihari Lal, state organising secretary Shri Umesh Sharma and national executive member Kumari Rajni Thukral.
