Thousands of employees belonging to postal, railways, defence, central secretariat, AFHQ, currency & coins, state government employees of Delhi Jal Board, DTC, NDMC, MCD, Delhi Fire Service, etc staged a massive demonstration at Parliament Street in New Delhi on April 1. The demonstration was staged under the banner of Government Employees National Confederation (GENC). The demonstrators expressed their anguish and resentment against the recommendation of Sixth Central Pay Commission. Shri Zile Singh Chauhan, president of Delhi State Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, presided over the rally. He assured full cooperation of BMS to the cause of government employees.

Addressing the demonstrators, Shri P.J. Soundararajan, secretary of GENC, said the recommendations of Fifth Central Pay Commission were better than the Sixth Pay Commission. Instead of removing the existing anomalies, it created more inequalities among all salary levels in various grades. When the Fifth Pay Commission had rejected pay-band structure granted to the armed forces by the Fourth Pay Commission, there is no meaning of bringing it now. He requested the Prime Minister to look into the grievances of the employees and take a necessary action to review the entire report of the Sixth Pay Commission immediately and carry out suitable modifications before implementing it.

Shri Virender Sharma, spokesperson of the Confederation, pointed out that the anguish expressed by the chief of three defence forces against the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission, manifests the fact that the report was prepared under the government directions. It is not a good sign. The employees working in the Ministry of Defence are deeply anguished over the recommendations of the Pay Commission. He said if the government does not agree to review the recommendations, the government employees would show the doors to this government in the coming elections.

Shri P.C. Sharma (railways), Shri Chander Mohan (central secretariat and headquarters), Shri B.S. Bhati, general secretary (BMS Delhi state), Shri Rishi Pal Singh of GENC Delhi, Shri Vidyadhar Pathak (postal) and many others addressed the demonstrators. After the demonstration a memorandum was also presented to the Prime Minister requesting him to pay attention to the demands of the government employees.
