VIJAYAWADA: The Rameswaram Ram Sethu Samrakshana Vedika on October 4 took out a rally in the city protesting against the government'sproposal to demolish the Ram Sethu.
Holding placards aloft, the agitators raised slogans against the government'sproposal. The rally began at Siva Ramakrishna Kshetram at Satyanarayanapuram and passed through several streets in Gandhinagar and its surrounding areas.
They said demolition of the Sethu would cause loss of valuable thorium reserves and expose Kerala coast to cyclones and tsunamis.
The government'sact would hurt the sentiments of crores of people across the globe. Vedika leaders warned that those trying to dismantle the Sethu would face the wrath of people.
Vedika leaders Shri Ravuri Lakshminarayana, Shri Yabaluri Loknath Sarma, Shri Samavedam Shanmukha Sarma, Shri Pramoda Chaitanyananda, Matha Siva Chaitanyananda, Shri Kanna Bhaskar, Bharatiya Janata Party city president Laka Vengala Rao Yadav, industrialist Shri Gokaraju Ganjaraju were among the prominent personalities who participated in the rally. Among 1500 participants in Vijayawada about 800 women participated in the rally. Along with religious and social organisations, elders of Vijayawada Forum were also present.
