Some miscreants suspected to be activists of Samajwadi Party (SP) fired at RSS Swayamsevaks who were coming out of a Guru Dakshina function at Gangadevi Dharmashala in Kasganj (Uttar Pradesh) on August 8. A senior Sangh activist, Gyanendra Maheshwari, who was also Zila Pramukh of Sewa Bharati, died on the spot and eight other activists were seriously injured and were admitted to the hospital. The incident took place at 8.30 a.m. Shocked at the sudden attack, the Swayamsevaks tried to catch the miscreants but most of them managed to escape. One miscreant was caught who was later handed over to the police. The person caught is Charan Singh and is said to be a prominent activist of Samajwadi Party. Other attackers are also believed to be SP activists. The angered Swayamsevaks, keeping the dead body of the killed activist on the road blocked the Ettah-Badaiyun Road for hours in protest against the attack. The Swayamsevaks vacated the road only after senior police and administrative officials assured them of strict action against the culprits. Besides the district president and general secretary of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morch, Agra, the Vibhag Karyavah of RSS also met the Inspector General of Police and demanded strict action against the culprits.
