Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested Mohammad Aman in an espionage case involving the sharing of sensitive information with Pakistan-based handlers. A case has reportedly been registered against him under the Official Secrets Act.
According to investigators, Aman installed a SIM-enabled CCTV camera outside his house in Kathua. The camera was positioned towards a road frequently used by security forces and was used to transmit live footage to his handlers.
Police are investigating the network and examining the accused’s electronic devices and communication links to determine the extent of his activities and identify other people who may have been involved.
Rs 20,000 payment made through Dubai
Investigators allege that Aman was paid Rs 20,000 for installing the surveillance camera. The payment was reportedly routed through a Dubai-based channel.
Reports also say that the case involved the alleged collection of information related to military movements and sensitive locations. However, the exact extent of the information allegedly transmitted is still part of the investigation.
Second similar case in four months
Aman’s arrest is being reported as the second alleged espionage case linked to Pakistan-based handlers in Jammu and Kashmir involving digital surveillance in about four months.
In May 2026, police arrested 23-year-old Karan Kumar from Makwal village in Jammu in another alleged espionage case. Police claimed that Kumar was contacted on Snapchat by a woman claiming to be a BSF personnel posted in Punjab.
He was lured through an online interaction and later asked to share photographs of bunkers and flyovers.
Police alleged that Kumar received Rs 2,000 for the information.
The latest case involving Aman remains under investigation as agencies examine the alleged links with Pakistan-based handlers and the possible extent of the surveillance network.
